Chair massage is administered in a special chair with arms supported and face resting in a cradle with the neck and back completely relaxed. Chair massage consists of broad strokes, kneading and compressions to the scalp, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands. Massage to the legs and feet may also be incorporated. Chair massage is the modality of choice for a quick relaxation treatment at home, workplace and many other public venues.
The advantages of chair massage are similar to traditional Swedish massage on a table, including the physical and psychological benefits of touch, reducing stress and tension, and limbering up joints, tendons and muscles.
Clients remain fully clothed for chair massage and massage oils are not required. Clients are invited to remove heavy layers such as sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets; and may be encouraged to loosen neckwear or scarves, and to remove eyewear and jewelry. Client safety and comfort shall be respected at all times. If you have any concerns prior to your treatment, your massage therapist will be happy to describe and demonstrate the seated position in the chair and answer any questions you may have.
Chair massage may not be recommended for clients with certain contagious conditions, recovering from recent injury or surgery, taking certain medications or who may be pregnant. Please share your complete medical history so that your massage therapist can ensure you are given the most effective treatment possible.
